Preparations Begin for bauma 2016 in Munich

Demand for exhibition space is again very high for the next bauma, taking place from April 11–17, 2016. The upcoming event, billed as the world’s leading trade fair for construction machinery, building material machines, mining machines, construction vehicles and construction equipment, will take up all the available space—6.5 million ft2 of exhibition space—at the Messe München exhibition center in Munich.

Large GRP Tank for Husab Uranium Holds 250,000 Liters

IWC recently completed the construction of one of its largest ever glass-fiber reinforced plastics (GRP) tanks measuring 6 m (19 ft) in diameter and 11 m (36 ft) high, capable of holding up to 254,000 liters. The length of the cylinder in this tank is 9 m. IWC said its GRP manufacturing facility in Isando, Gauteng, can manufacture sizes in length up to 14 m in a single filament-wound process.

FLSmidth Will Supply Major Equipment to Siberian Process Plant

FLSmidth has received an order from the Russian minerals producer Norilsk Nickel Group valued at approximately DKK 600 million for the engineering and supply of various bundled equipment for a complete “process island” at the Bystrinskoye copper-magnetite plant. The plant will be located in the Zabaikalsky Kral region in Eastern Siberia, Russia.

Cat Restructures Mining Business, Plans Further Layoffs and Cost Reduction Moves

Caterpillar announced on September 24 that, in response to continued weakening market conditions and the changing nature of its global dealer relations, it is reorganizing several divisions and planning to permanently reduce its salaried and management workforce by 4,000 to 5,000 people between now and the end of 2016. This is part of a total possible workforce reduction of more than 10,000 people, along with contemplated consolidation and closures of manufacturing facilities occurring through 2018.
