Metso Minerals suggests that when customers want to be assured of selecting the right crusher or screen for a mining or aggregate process, they are well-advised to use and benefit from the information provided by Metso’s Bruno simulation software. Bruno, according to the company, indicates accurately in advance how the specified equipment will perform at a mine or quarry.

An increasing volume of contract awards and corporate announcements points to a trend within the mining industry to allocate more attention and resources to water management.

Harrison Western Group subsidiary, HW Process Technologies, has been awarded a contract valued at $22 million to design, install, commission and operate a new water treatment plant at the Cobre Las Cruces (CLC) copper mine near Seville, Spain. CLC is 70% owned by Canada-based Inmet Mining Corp. and 30% by U.S.-based Leucadia National Corp.

Two recent developments in vertical mill applications highlight the industry’s increased focus on energy-efficient grinding of ores and construction materials, as well as on improved electrical performance and safety features of vertical mill drive systems.

Mining entails removal of rock from below the surface of the earth to recover metals of value. Regardless of the method used, undesirable elements and compounds may also be brought to the surface and transferred into process streams that can contaminate a final product—or they may not be noticed until there is waste water, tailings ponds or acid mine drainage to deal with.
