Construction Starts at Kiziltepe Gold Mine in Western Turkey

Ariana Resources reported in early September that mine construction has begun at the Kiziltepe gold project on the joint-venture Red Rabbit property in western Turkey. Proccea Construction Co. is Ariana’s partner in the project and is managing construction. The companies anticipate that the mine will pour its first gold in the second half of 2016. Production is planned to average 20,000 ounces per year (oz/y) of gold.

Court Orders Auction of Iron Mines in India’s Karnataka Province

India’s Supreme Court has ordered that 15 iron ore mines in the southern province of Karnataka be put up for auction and that the process be completed within eight months. The court order would impact even those mines that had restarted production in 2013 after the court had imposed a two-year ban on mining operations in the province. The resumption of mining was on condition of a cap in total production of 30 million metric tons per year (mt/y).

Lack of Geological Data Hinders Indian License Auction

Inadequate exploration and geological data was hindering India’s provincial governments from setting the ball rolling for auction of “composite mining licenses.” Provincial governments like Orissa, Karnataka, and Chhattisgarh have pleaded that they do not have the financial nor technical wherewithal to complete G3 (prospecting stage) of exploration, as was made mandatory by the federal laws from auction of composite mining licenses by the provincial governments.
