Lydian Enters Into Contracts for Supplies at Amulsar Gold Project

Lydian International Ltd.’s wholly owned Armenian operating subsidiary has signed key equipment supply contracts for its 100% owned Amulsar gold project in Armenia. These contracts, signed ahead of the 2017 construction season, will provide all significant components of the mining fleet, materials handling system, gold-recovery plant, electrical systems, and worker accommodations.

CyPlus Opens New Plant in Mexico

A new CyPlus Idesa sodium cyanide production plant was recently inaugurated with a ceremony in Veracruz, Mexico. CyPlus Idesa is a joint venture between German Evonik and Mexican Grupo IDESA. The new sodium cyanide plant has a capacity of 40,000 metric tons (mt) and uses state-of-the-art hydrocyanic acid and cyanide technologies.

Fortescue Metals Triples Net Profit for Half-year

Iron-ore producer Fortescue Metals Group Ltd. released its half-year results ending December 31 that include a net profit after tax of US$1.2 billion, which is a 283% increase over $319 million that was reported for the half-year period ending December 31, 2015.

Sibanye Receives Bank Approval for Acquisition of Stillwater Mining

Sibanye Gold Ltd. announced on February 21 it had received the approval of the South African Reserve Bank, as required in accordance with the Exchange Control Regulations of South Africa, with respect to the proposed acquisition of Stillwater Mining Co., which was announced on December 9 and is valued at $2.2 billion.
