Suncor Provides Update on Syncrude Recovery Plan

Suncor’s Syncrude Mildred Lake oil sands facility has advanced a planned eight-week turnaround to mitigate the impact of a unplanned outage from a March 14 incident, where a loss of containment on a line near one of the naphtha hydrotreating units damaged a pipe rack, containing piping, cables and electrical circuits. The planned turnaround was originally scheduled to begin in April. Beginning this week, Suncor expects to handle volumes of untreated Syncrude production to assist in managing inventory.

Rio Tinto, Eriez Test Pilot Facility to Increase Base Metals Recovery

Eriez Recovery Technology, including the patented HydroFloat technology from the Eriez Flotation Division (EFD), is being tested in a pilot plant jointly with Rio Tinto to evaluate the possibility of improving metals recovery from its Rio Tinto Kennecott Copper (RTKC) operation at the Bingham Canyon mine near Salt Lake City, Utah.

Eldorado: Olympias Phase II Commissioning on Track

Eldorado Gold Corp. reported it has received multiple tenders for significantly better concentrate sales terms at Olympias Phase II, where wet commissioning at the project is currently under way. Under the new sales terms, gold payability rates have increased from 58% up to a maximum of 71%, which is expected to result in an increase of approximately 15,000 ounces (oz) of payable gold production per year. Phase II production is now estimated to be approximately 85,000 oz per year (oz/y) of gold — from 72,000 oz/y previously — plus approximately 55,000 oz of gold equivalent production.
